Production of the press and forging equipment at NKMZ has been started since 1936. In the late 40-s, NKMZ manufactured the first-horizontal farging machines - the types GKM-1000 and GKM-1800. Later, the range of such machines manufactured at NKMZ was extended. Today, this equipment is efficiently operated in Italy, Russia, Romania, Czech Republic, China, India, etc.
In the middle 50-s, due to widening the range of equipment used for mechanical working, some crank and hot stamping presses were designed which featured high efficiency and provided good quality of forgings with the maintenance costs being rather low.
The development of the aircraft, power generating, tractor and other industries in the 50-s and 60-s required the large-sized critical and precise solid-press forgings made of the high-alloyed heat-resistant titanium and other hard-to-deform steel grades and alloys. In this connection production of the die forging hammers was initiated at NKMZ.
In the late 70-s, the new high-duty hydrostatic plants designed to test and machine materials through the use of the hydrostatic pressure effect were made by NKMZ. In collaboration with UNIIMETMASH Research Institute the unique hydrostatic plants-types DK-600 (1985), DK-1000 (1981) and K-1000 (1987) were designed and manufactured for TSNIIT Research Institute (Russia). These plants operating at pressure equal to those at the ultimate sea depths were used to test submarine structures and components.
It is noteworthy that over 20% of the hot stamped forgings in the CIS are made through the use of the presses and hammers produced at NKMZ.
