HISTORY OF THE COMPANY

Honours

NKMZ was officially commissioned on September 28.1934. It was initially intended to produce the unique machinery which was deemed to be the first in country or even in the world.
The first made in Europe were the high-power slabbing mill and a giant, by that time, continuous thin sheet and wide strip mill for "Zaporozhstal" steel works. Then, the unique gantry cranes for Moskva-Volga canal, steel ladle cranes for the steel works, the mine winders for mines in Donbass region, the equipment for the Moscow Metro and open steel structures for the Crimean Bridge in Moscow were manufactured.
In the course of 72 years, 100 rolling mills, 189 hotmetal torpedo cars, 45 die forging hammers, 20 installations for hard-facing the cones and bowls of blast furnace charging devices, 142 presses of various applications and forces, 17 machines for hot-metal transfer car slagging, 103 horizontal forging machines, about 2000 draglines, about 2,000 mine winders, about 3,000 ore crushers and coal-pulverizing molls and 18 bucket-wheel open-cast shovel sets were designed and manufactured at NKMZ.
NKMZ's production capabilities were vividly demonstrated during implementation of the rocket and space development programs and manufacture of propeller shafts for nuclear-powered ice-breakers, 75,000 and 65,000 ton force hydraulic presses for the aircraft industry at home and in France, installations for hydrostatic tests of the bathyscaph and submarine components, etc.
About 30 percent of the total product output at NKMZ initally related to the military production complex. This included the space-launch complexes and launching pads, missile silos, the unique "Buran-Energya" launching pad, etc.
Machines and equipment bearing the trage mark of NKMZ are being operated in 49 countries including Japan, Gernany, France, Italy and Canada.
Today, NKMZ is still defining the main trends of development in machine-building, iron and steel-making, power generation, automotive and shipbuilding, chemical, defence and air-space industries.
A quality control system was developed and implemented at NKMZ that embraces the whole production cycle - from the researches to the equipment erection and technical servicing. This quality system assures production of products which meet ISO 9001 (EN 29001) requirements. That is confirmed by the Quality Certificate issued by TÜV NORD Technical Supervisory Society (Germany).
By constantly diversifying production, NKMZ has already renovated 80 per cent of the product mix including:   Every year up 40 percent of the employees are involved in various kinds of training. The Board of NKMZ J.St.Co does not save up on training and considers tuition as the most efficient means of investments. Researchers and specialists from the reputed foreign firms are engaged in reading lectures and conducting classes for the managing staff of various levels in marketing, management, economics, etc.
Due to the large intellectual and production potentials, high level of the staff proficiency, application of the advanced designing, process and quality control technologies, NKMZ is apt to make the machinery that out-performs many machines manufactured both at home and abroad.
NKMZ's interests are focused on providing the iron and steel-making works, ore and mining plants, sea-port terminals, power generating plants. etc. with the up-to-date equipment featuring the optimum performances for each particular customer.
Port terminal equipment for reloading and processing of bulk materials.
Equipment for enepgy complex, hydraulic engineering equipment and other unique facilities for heavy industry.
Today, over 50 per cent of products made at NKMZ are exported. We have established close business relations with the companies from 50 counties all over the world. Now, we are ready to start cooperation with any new partners.
