  Over 80% of hot-rolled sheet production in CIS countries is made on wide-strip mills of NKMZ production.
  Constant attention is given to improvement of these mills design in NKMZ program. It is due to high share of hot-rolled flat materials in the world production and because of growing of user's requirements for their quality.
  In the process of hot rolling technology development carried out is a search for most optimum design of wide-strip mills providing for fulfillment of requirements for power saving, capital investments reduction, technological potentialities widening and raising of automation level.
  Advanced technologies are implemented, among other things, as a result of acting mills updating. At updating performing NKMZ pays special attention to:

  2. maximum possible using of existing equipment;

Hot rolling mills
  Below You can find, as an example, the scheme of 2500 mm universal high-duty semi continuous wide-strip mill, fitted with modern backup facilities and production control systems, intended for production of strip of various steel grades including steels with advance hardness category.
  Besides conventional procedure for wide-strip mills here can be realized rolling technology for pipe steel grades in accordance with controlled modes.

  More economic and less capital-intensive rolling mills of small capacity are coming into ever increasing use; among them are in particular rolling mills with coilers in furnaces (Steckel mills). NKMZ has made three of such mills, configuration of which traditionally includes one roughing and one finishing reversing stands. Among last NKMZ developments - scheme of reversing mill with coilers in the furnaces with one roughing and two finishing stands, this mill possesses advanced technological possibilities both as for increase in productivity and thin strips rolling with quality indicators met world market requirements.

  More than 10 hot rolling strip mills NKMZ designed and supplied for enterprises of aluminum industry. The product range includes both the most efficient mills (semi continuous, up to 1 mln. t/year), and reversing mills. Heavy reduction ability, high degree of automation, modern technology and facilities make it possible to produce a wide range of products with required level of surface quality, mechanical properties and allowances for geometrical dimensions.
  For small rolled metal production volumes from aluminum alloys it is proposed the reversing mills with coilers upstream and downstream finishing stand, implementing advanced rolling technology in "coiler to coiler" mode in last passes. Such technology assures receiving of more thin and quality strip thanks to temperature and rolling modes stabilization in last passes with tension.

  To meet machine building, aviation, shipbuilding requirements in large diameter gas pipes manufacturing NKMZ designs and produces plate mills for sheets and plates rolling up to 5000 mm in width from carbon, low-alloy, high-strength and stainless steels as well as from aluminum and its alloys.   Main features of NKMZ plate mills are the following:
  1. use of controlled thermo-deformational rolling modes;
  2. rolling of difficult-to-form steel grades with reheating;
  3. reduction of end and side crops;
  4. strip slitting by dividing shears;
  5. restriction of dimensional tolerances, quality and mechanical properties improvement.
  Levelers, fault detectors, side shears, slitting and crop shears, marking and stamping facility, units for sub cooling and accelerated cooling of breakdown bar in finishing stand area, normalizing-cum-hardening and tempering furnaces, roller quench unit are installed for rolled material finish and heat treatment operation performing.   At the customer's request we furnish equipment both for new and reconstructed plate mills with the parameters indicated below:

  One of the promising trends in the development of new energy-saving, economic and ecologically purer technologies is manufacturing of hot-rolled products with casting and rolling processes combined.   NKMZ is ready to propose to their customers technology and equipment permitting sheet production on the continuous-casting direct-rolling facility (CCDR) incorporating in one technological row a thin slab continuous casting machine, heating pusher-type furnace and hot-rolling mill with the capacity up to 1,700,000 t/year.   The continuous-casting direct-rolling facility with Steckel mill with the capacity of 0,5 mln. t/year.   For production of small quantities of rolled materials from aluminium and its alloys proposed is a single-stand reversing mill with coilers in front of stand and behind it.
  The advantages of such system lie first of all in functions division of roughing and finishing rolling ensuring production of more accurate and high-quality strip owing to temperature control and tension rolling during last passes.

  For needs of machinebuilding, aviation, shipbuilding, manufacture of large diameter gas pipes NKMZ designs and produces plate mills for plates and heavy-gauge plates up to 5000 mm wide from carbon, low-alloy, high-strength and stainless steels as well as from aluminium and its alloys.   In order to finish and heat treat the rolled material provision is made for levellers, defectoscopes, side shears, slitting and crop shears, marking and stamping facility, units for precooling and speed cooling of transfer bar in finisher, normalizing-cum-hardening and temper furnaces, roller quench furnace.
