STEELMAKING AND CASTING METHODS

Steelmaking is performed in the electric furnaces with subsequent refinement in the after-furnace liquid steel treatment facility. At casting, steel is subject to deep vacuum degassing with the use of steam jet pumps. In consequence of this, the hydrogen content of steel does not exceed 1.5 ppm, the same for the oxygen and nitrogen is 30 ppm and 80 ppm respectively, the number of non-metallic inclusion reduces by 50% and the total sulphur and phosphorus content does not exceed 0.02%.
The iron and steel making capacities allow casting the ingots weighing up to 170 t.
NKMZ also possesses the equipment for producing billets by the electroslag remelting method.
