  Heavy-duty working stands with the rolling force up to 100,000 kN and rolling torque up to 6000 kNm were manufactured at NKMZ.

WIDE-STRIP HOT-ROLLING MILL VERTICAL ROLL STAND
  To reduce the slabs up to 150 mm in width and to form the workpiece edges a vertical roll stand fitted with the rolls with grooves and hydraulic screw-down mechanisms were developed and constructed at NKMZ.
  A special feature of the stand construction is also the unconventional arrangement of the work rolls drive with the hollow output shafts that gives a considerable gain in the stand height clearance as compared with the conventional drive.

  The high dimensional accuracy through cross and longitudinal sections of strips and plates, the optimal shape are obtained both in working stands and in the mill by means of the modern facilities and automatic control systems developed by NKMZ in close cooperation with leading research institutes of the Ukraine and Russia.

Hydraulic screwdown mechanism   Among these are a hydraulic screwdown mechanism, counter-bending and auxiliary bending systems, systems for axial shift and thermal cambering of work rolls, crossing of work and backup rolls, a "water curtain" type laminar cooling system on the run-out roller table with appropriate systems for controlling process variables.
  We manufacture hydraulic screwdown mechanisms for the automatic gauge control system. The setting speed is 4 mm/s, the stroke is 30-160 mm, the setting accuracy is 0.01 mm.
  In addition to the hydraulic bending of work rolls and in conjunction with it to influence the strip shape more efficiently we suggest a thermal cambering system which contains quick-acting shut-off valves providing a prompt control of cooling nozzles and a discrete influence on the work roll profile.   The work roll shift system provides a high quality of the strip surface, a possibility to perform a program-free rolling, reduces the number of roll changes.
  The cambering, counter-bending and auxiliary bending systems influence greatly a strip cross section.

The work roll shift system

  Shift range: ±10% of barrel lenght.
  Crossing range: ±1%.

  The "water curtain" type laminar cooling system allows to control efficiently the coiling temperature, the cooling speed and in such a manner the predetermined mechanical and technological properties of the strip are obtained. The 'water curtain' type laminar cooling system
  Savings in starting materials, fuel and energy are important factors in increase of the economic efficiency of the rolling mills.   On NKMZ rolling mills the energy saving manufacturing processes are realized by means of rolling directfy after a continuous casting of slabs and by the use of ENCO panels on the intermediate roller table.

 

AN ENCO PANEL
  With the help of ENCO panels 40-60° C decrease in the temperature wedge along the strip plate length, 30-50°C decrease in the temperature of heating slabs in furnaces are obtained.
  NKMZ has designed and manufactured more than 100 colters including universal coilers used for coiling strip 1.2 to 30 mm thick of various grades of steel.
  The new generation of our coilers is represented by a three-roll-type coiler with a hydraulic servodrive for forming rollers. The coilers are equipped with a rigid three-position drum and provide a qualitative coiling.

SPINDLE ARRANGEMENTS FOR ROLLING MILLS
  The extension of the range of rolled products and assurance of the strip high quality require the utilization of the working stands with high reduction capacity.

  The crop shears with a rolling cut perform cutting defective plate ends off, cutting samples out, cutting strips to length.
  The rolling cut eliminates deformation of the plate being cut, leaves the surface clean and smooth.
    The shears are provided with:
  • mechanism for adjusting a horizontal clearance between blades;
  • measuring rollers providing a shear gauge-free stop of the strip plate for a cut;
  • crop-end pusher;
  • blade changing mechanism.

  Rotary disk shears for trimming plates 32 mm thick in a cold state and up to 50 mm thick in a hot state. The shears are supplied complete with scrap shears and pinch rolles.

  The convenience in using our rolling mills is also obtained by means of mechanization of auxialiary production operations such as changing of work and backup rolls, banding and marking of coils, sampling, assembly and disassembly of bearings for rolls.

The hydraulic descaler for the secondary scale removal

  The hydraulic descaler for the secondary scale removal is set before the finishing mill group. Unlike conventional designs the descaler there is made a provision for the mechanized whet ing out of the headers which allows to take care of sprays and change the headers as complete units in the process of the IT operation.

  A banding machine for the automatic banding of hot-and cold-rolled coils with a metal band locked with a clamp made directly in a fastening head.
